0.9.0b - Steam Autumn Festival build


The focus of this version is a presentable demo for the Steam Autumn Festival.

Control

  • Analog triggers can now be assigned as buttons in the Controller options.
  • Show a warning in menus when button settings are currently not valid for your controller, meaning you would not be able to press those buttons in game.

Visual

  • Short intro cinematic before first stage.
  • Enemies show an additional sprite to warn when they are about to fire.

Gameplay

  • New save file will have only the first stage and Inebriator minigame unlocked at the start.
  • Added a very hard Demonic difficulty.
  • Enemy and bullet adjustments to make normal and hard difficulties more distinct from each other.
  • Increase player shot burst from 3 to 4.
  • Focus fire is now a single stream with double the fire rate.
  • Added score values to some enemies that had none.
  • Swordsmen try to avoid obstacles and player attacks while rushing their target.
  • Difficulty now affects scoring. On Normal blue hearts score half points. On Demonic blue hearts and rescues score 5x points. Extra life scores are adjusted to match.
  • Fixed: When enemies had their backs to player, they could shoot out of their backs in some cases.
  • Increased score values of all the bosses and health of some bosses.

Stages

  • Tutorial
    • Enemies no longer fire, except for catapults in order to demonstrate that bomb destroys bullets. Readability of the instructions is more important than a chance to practice bullet dodging.
    • Change wording to indicate that wingmen unlock and use powerful maneuvers automatically.
    • Wingmen are not carried over into Stage 1 anymore as it could be seen as a bug.
  • 1.Demon Realm
    • Spread out swordsmen spawns a bit.
  • 2.Village
    • Wrote better boss dialogue.
  • 4.Underground
    • Fixed: Failing to rescue prisoners from cages or chains could still give points.
    • Fixed: If not destroyed in time, demonsterizer machines did not produce zombies and still gave points.
  • 7.Castle
    • Fixed: Stone guards didn’t path correctly.
    • Fixed: Some assassins weren’t affected by difficulty setting.

Interface

  • Exit the Controller options if all controllers are unplugged.
  • Show difficulty level in the horizontal HUD.
  • Add choice of background in Picture options: black, gradient, or artwork. Default is artwork.
